Willie Morris Obituary

Willie James Morris was born on August 6, 1959, in St. Petersburg, Florida, to the late William Morris and Charlie Mae Morris.

He grew up with a passion for sports and a dedication to personal growth, which became evident during his years at Lakewood High School, where he excelled as a district champion wrestler in 1977 and went on to place in the state tournament his senior year. Following his graduation, Willie pursued higher education and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Central State University, where he was a four-year letterman wrestler. He later obtained a Master’s degree from Webster University, exemplifying his commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.

Willie’s career was defined by his devotion to helping others, particularly young people in need of guidance and support. He had a long history of providing therapeutic services to youth, working in several roles, including: - Director of Juvenile Justice Program - Lake County Boys Ranch - Director of Therapeutic Activities at Lifestream Behavioral Center - School Principal at Lifestream Academy - Director of Recreation at Sumter Correctional Institution - Director of Student Support at Job Corps His final professional chapter spanned more than 20 years at the College of Central Florida, where he served as a Student Support Administrator, continuing his heartfelt mission of encouraging and empowering students to reach their fullest potential.

A devout Christian, Willie was ordained as a Deacon of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in September of 1997. His faith and dedication to serving the Lord guided his life’s work and touched the lives of all who knew him.

Willie was preceded in death by his father, William Morris (1965); his sister, Annie Pearl Cull (1983); and his mother, Charlie Mae Morris (2019).

He is survived by his loving children: Matt Morris, Willie Morris, Hayley Morris, Fraya Morris, and Raven Morris; his brothers: Terry Morris, Greg Morris, Daryl Morris, Linwood Morris, and Kerry Morris; his beloved grandchildren: Leila Morris and Aria Morris; and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
