The Legacy of Viola Thomas McDaniel
Viola Thomas was born to Willie and Laura Thomas, Sr. on Saturday, September 17, 1932. She answered the call of her Heavenly Father on Friday, February 17, 2023 at West Marion Hospital where she was surrounded by family and friends.
Viola was born and raised in Ocala, Florida where she attended Marion County Public Schools.
She was converted at an early age in Young Chapel AME Church. She later became a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. While at New Zion she attended Sunday school regularly, served on the Pastors Aide Ministry and Mission Ministry and served as President for a number of years for both ministries.
With determination she worked her way up from a private housekeeper to a nurse assistant, received her training and retired as an obstetrician assistant at Munroe Regional Center where she labored for forty plus years. After retirement Viola spent the remaining of her days helping others. She enjoyed reading the Bible daily.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Calvin McDaniel, Sr.; Sister Ealar Mae Thomas; Brother Willie Thomas, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her four daughters: Narvella Haynes, Jermele Jacobs (Ellie), Denise Robeson, Letecia Edwards (Stanley); eleven grandchildren: Kenyata Hayes, Sr., Jamese Pierson, Winton Pierson, Keith Jacobs (Jamie), Dezmon Wheeler, Robert L. Scott, Jr.(Marquisha), Lorenzo Edwards, III (Jody), Lexxten Edwards, Calvin McDaniel III, Kenneth Stewart, and Robert Summers; thirteen great grandchildren: Kenyata and Kelijah Hayes, Jalani Johnson, Imani Boothe, Jordan and Kai Jacobs, Robert L. Scott III, Raina Scott, Alexa Edwards, Nala Edwards, Dreyton Wheeler Taylor McDaniel and Caleigh McDaniel; two brothers Alfred Thomas(Roberta), Freddie Thomas(Kaye); Sister Elizabeth Greenlee(Robert); a sister in-law Sallie Sears, three daughters in-laws, Sheila McDaniel, Linda Stewart and Barbara Summers; and;, two devoted nieces Cheryl Thomas and Debra Thomas; four adopted children; Shirley Bell (Roosevelt), Mary Woodbury, Barbara Fedd (Willie), Gatha Council; God Children Cynthia Ruiz (Robert), Keith Gibson (Toni), Jackie Faison(Leroy, Jr.); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Wake Service will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2023, at 6:00pm until 7:30pm at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 728 NW 6th Ave., Ocala, Fl 34475.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday February 24, 2023, at 1:00 until 6:00PM at Summers Funeral Home 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala 34475.
Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 11:00am at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 728 NW 6th Ave., Ocala, Fl 34475.
