Rudy Turner (68) was born to James William Turner and Lotti Bell Anderson on March 2, 1953 in Columbia, South Carolina. He graduated high school in Anderson, Indiana. Upon graduation, he attended auto tech school and was a certified auto mechanic.
He joined holy matrimony with Margo Walker on November 5,1995 in Maryland. They relocated to Ocala in 2001. He was a member of New Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He served as musician at various churches in the Marion County area.
Rudy was a master musician. He began playing the guitar when he was just thirteen years old. He performed with artists, Candi Staton, David Ruffin, Stevie Wonder, Clifford Jordan, Hank Crawford, Groove Holmes, Jack McDuff, Mary Wells and many more. He played on the boat “Odyssey” based in Washington D.C. for one year and throughout the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area for many years. He also performed at the Library of Congress and the House of Representatives on many occasions. Not only does he have four CD’s under his own label, he recorded with Funk Inc and is on five CD’s with various artists produced at Maple Shade Studios. As an extraordinary musician, he played eleven instruments. They are drums, piano, bass foot pedals, xylophone, guitar, bass, organ, twelve string guitar, congas, harmonica, and the acoustic electric piano with bass pedals. He performed Jazz, R&B, Country, Blues, Rock & Roll, Classical and Gospel.
On Sunday, July 31, 2022, he answered the Master’s call with his wife Margo by his side. He was preceded in death by his son, Donta Turner, sister, Betty Morgan, brothers, Charles Turner and Melvin Turner.
He leaves to cherish his memories:
A loving wife of 27 years, Margo Turner; Daughters, Sarah Smith, Nina Smith, Christina Smith, Brittany Smith, Son, Jabbar Turner; Fifteen (15) grandchildren; Ten (10) great grandchildren and one (1) great-great grandchild, Brothers: Calvin Turner (Mary), Butler Turner, Willie Turner (Gina), Harrison Turner, Paul Turner (Lesa); Sisters: Mae Martin, Bernice Turner, Nancy Turner, Martha Turner, Patricia Dreher and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Memorial Service will be held Thursday August 11, 2022, at 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Marion Oaks Community Center, 294 Marion Oaks Lane, Ocala, FL 34473.
