Deacon Roy V. Coleman Sr.

Deacon Roy V. Coleman Sr. was born on March 17, 1938, in Perry, Florida, to the late John Lee “Stud” Coleman Sr. and Curtis Lee (McKenzie) Coleman. On Saturday, May 23, 2026, he answered the Master’s call and entered into eternal rest.
Roy received his education through the Marion County Public School System and graduated from Howard High School with the Class of 1956. At an early age, he accepted Christ and remained a faithful lifelong member of Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Ocala, Florida, Inc., where he faithfully served as a Deacon, Finance Chairman, and member of the GNB Male Chorus.
On November 28, 1959, Roy was united in holy matrimony to Annie Laura (Sims) Coleman, and their union was blessed with two children. He dedicated more than forty years of service to the City of Ocala as a Sanitation Engineer and Driver.
In his leisure time, Roy enjoyed bowling and watching sports. He was also a member of the USBC and TNBA Bowling Associations, the Greater New Bethel Deacons’ Ministry, and served as a Poll Officer for the Supervisor of Elections.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Annie Laura Coleman; parents, John L. Coleman Sr. and Curtis Lee Coleman; sisters, Ora Lee Washington and Yvonne Smith; and brother, Calvin Coleman.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Janiet Heyward (Terry, deceased); son, Roy Coleman Jr. (Aimee); siblings, Garfield Coleman, John Coleman Jr. (Helen, deceased), Virginia Jackson, Rebecca Webb, Thelma Hart, and Grace Bynum; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy Sims (Dorothy) and Ida Scott (Leroy Sr.); granddaughters, Danielle Reed (Randall), Davina Spinks, Daija Heyward, Latisha Edwards (Jeremy), Felecia Milsap (Kenneth), and Narobi Gordon; grandsons, Trevor Heyward, Troy Heyward, Kevin Coleman, Tyree Coleman, Jordon Austin, and Cameron Austin; godchildren, Sophia Norris, Chalanda Shaw, Loretta Sims Peoples, Chamae Sims, and Leroy Sims Jr.; 22 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 1:00 until 6:00pm at Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala, Fl 34475.
Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00am at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church, 612 NW 4th Place. Ocala, Florida, 34475.
