Robert James, Coy, 91
Affectionally called “RJ” by his family and “Hoppy” by others, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in Chambersburg. Pennsylvania. He was born on December 23, 1931, in Cotton Plant, Florida to the parentage of the late Emanuel and Ruby Louise Hamilton Coy.
He began his educational pursuant at Wesley Chapel School in Cotton Plant and later attended Howard Academy in Ocala, FL. In his young adult life, RJ decided to move to Polk County in pursuit of Job opportunities. There, after resettling, he met and married the late Lizzie Mae Tomlin. To this union four children were born.
Seasonal employment in the citrus industry afforded him the opportunity to travel to various states. He eventually relocated to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, where he met Nancy Jones, his devoted companion of 50 years.
RJ worked at Heisey Orchards in Mercersburg, PA. and later retired from Knouse Foods after 30 years of service.
RJ loved to watch football and to reminisce with friends about old times. Also, he was known in his neighborhood as the “porch waver”.
Predeceased Family Members Children: Norma Cassandra Coy and Patricia Ann Coy (Mike) Ellison; Grandson: James Murphy; Siblings: Staff Sgt. Jessie Coy (July 4, 1968. Vietnam War), Marcus Coy, Gertrude Coy Carter, Darnell Coy, and Lee Otis Coy.
Survivors Children: John R. (Yolanda) Coy of Chambersburg, PA and Joanne Coy of Lake Alfred, FL Grandchildren: Geneva Coy, Anita Coy, Shani Coy, and Lawrence Love, all of Kissimmee, FL, Nathan Broaders of Auburndale, FL, James Coy, Quinn Coy, and Damien Coy, all of Chambersburg, PA; great grandchildren: eight; great-great grand children: 6 Siblings: Dorothy Hope, Margaret Jackson, and Betty (Columbus) Bryant, all of Cotton Plant, FL, Mae Lois Poole of Ocala, FL, Lilly C Luckey of Blitchton, FL and Ruby L. “Linda” Coy of Orlando, FL. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish his memories.
