Master Sergeant Richard Kelly, beloved husband, father, brother, son, and Deputy Sheriff, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 53.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Richard lived a life of kindness, generosity, and dedication to family and community. He was known for his sharp sense of humor, strong work ethic, and boundless compassion, qualities that touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Richard proudly served with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, where he was deeply respected by colleagues and friends alike. His service to others, both in uniform and in everyday life, leaves a lasting legacy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Kelly Sr.; sister, Pearl Kelly; brother, Cedric Kelly; and granddaughter, Sophia.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shannon Kelly; children Leah Kelly, Seth Kelly, and Ethan Kelly (wife Naomi); mother Connie Kelly; siblings Rayford (Catherine) Kelly, Steven Carnegie, Joseph Kelly, Philip (Antionette) Kelly, Christopher Kelly, Emmaline Muse, Annie Boyd, and Lynett Kelly (Matthew Lamson). He was a proud grandfather to Carter, Jaxon, Kayd’n, Hope, Isaac, Ivey, Jayden, and Zyia, and will be remembered lovingly by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Special acknowledgments are extended to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, as well as to Trent and Kelly Reese, Chris and Sharon Inkell, Kevin Saunders, Rina Carriers, James and Colleen Fulcher, and Shawn and Sheila Fulcher for their love and support.
A public viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 27, 2025, at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office,3482 NW 10th St, Ocala, FL 34475.
