Rev. Dr. Josephus Bynum, Jr.

On May 15, 1952, a beautiful bouncing baby boy, Josephus Bynum, Jr. was born to the late Josephus Bynum, Sr. & Mae Louise Wilkerson Bynum in Ocala, FL.

He was educated in the Marion County Public School System, graduating in the Class of 1970 from Ocala High School. Dr. Bynum earned his Doctorate Degree in Theology from Andersonville Theological Seminary, Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Theology through the United Theological Seminary and Bible College, an AS Degree in Industrial Security, Certified CDL licensee.  He was an avid Florida State University, ‘Noles, fan!

Josephus was married to his High School Sweetheart, Grace Coleman Bynum on September 30, 1972.

At an early age, he was Baptized at Greater Hopewell MBC. Upon returning from the Air Force, he joined Greater New Bethel MBC, became a Deacon and while serving as a Deacon, was called by God to preach the gospel and ordained a Minister on July 28, 2002. After conducting worship services and acting as interim pastor for St. Lewis Missionary Baptist Church for circa 10 months, The LORD led the members to call him as the Pastor; he was installed in this position on August 7, 2005 and served until he was called home to be with the Lord. 

He was President of Pastor/Preachers With a Purpose. He was a true Servant Leader, and loved doing the work of The Lord.

Josephus entered the United States Air Force in October 1970 and served our Country for 24 years. He retired in the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.  After retiring from the Air Force, Josephus, his wife, Grace, and family relocated to Ocala. He bought and owned a Commercial Trucking Business.

He leaves to mourn his departure, a very devoted, loving wife, companion, mother, first lady, best friend, Mrs. Grace Bynum; Six children, Sons: Dalon (Antonia) Bynum, Josephus (JB, III) (Kimu) Bynum, Dedric (Tangela) Bynum; Daughters: Dichele Bynum, Denell Bynum, Dericka Bynum,; Brother, Kenneth ”Blue” Williams, Sister Geri Bynum-Martin, one aunt, Claretha (Willie) Ziegler; grand/great-grandchildren: Courtney, Christopher, Caleanna, Lamar, Jamal, Evelyn, Dashon, Janae, Alexia, Isaiah, Fernandes, Shayla, Rashard, Jasmine Tyvishay, Qua, Keyani, Kemari, Jasmine;  Brothers-in-law: Roy (Annie Laura) Coleman, Garfield (Thereta) Coleman, John Jr.(Helen) Coleman, Sisters-in-law: Virginia Jackson; Thelma Hart; God-Children:  Kimberly Burnett, Tyler LeCorn, Shanyila Walker, Kadrian Johnson; and  a host of loving Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, members and friends.

Favorite Scripture: Psalm 118:24:  “This is the Day which the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Public viewing on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th St, Ocala, Fl. and from 4:00 pm until 7:00pm at St. Lewis Missionary Baptist Church, 3961 West Silver Springs Blvd. Ocala, FL. 34482.

A Celebration of Life for Rev. Dr. Josephus Bynum, Jr. will be Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 11:00am at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 728 NW 6th Ave., Ocala, FL. 34475

Final Interment will be at BFW Memorial Garden, 121 SW 46th Ave. Ocala, FL.
