Marcella was the 8th. child of 10 children, born to Cannie Mitchell and Elvenia White- Mitchell, on July 2, 1923.
Her siblings were Sarah Mitchell, Julia Mitchell- Hemingway, Rosa Mitchell- Howard, Lincoln Mitchell, Solomon Mitchell, Bessie Mitchell-Lewis, Mae Helen Mitchell- Carroll, Viola Mitchell and Curley Mitchell, they all preceded her in death.
Marcella loved to read. She received her early education in Anthony, Florida at the local school. She graduated from Howard Academy, Ocala, Florida with a high school diploma.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a very early age. Her Christian education was cultivated in Mt. Olive AME Church, in Anthony, Florida. The marriage of Clifford and Marcella brought her to Kendrick, Florida and Mt. Tabor AME Church. Through the years, she has served in many positions; choir, usher, stewardess, church secretary. She loved the church.
Marcella was not afraid of hard work. She worked in the fields, a canning factory, domestic house keeper and more. She retired as a school custodian with 24 years of service from the Marion County School System.
She was married to the late, Clifford Spencer for 70 years. To this union was born 8 children, She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Peggy Spencer-Jackson, (Louis, deceased) Gloria Spencer-White (Joseph), Edna Spencer- Reedy (James) Elvina Spencer-Collins,(James, deceased) Harietta Spencer -White (Alfonso) and Icella Spencer. Grands, Great Grands, Great-Great Grands, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and many sorrowing friends. She was preceded in death by son Nathaniel Spencer and daughter, Lois Spencer-Vance (Lester)
Her hobbies were sewing, reading, writing and doing Seek and Find puzzles. She was a newspaper columnist, for the Mahogany Revue Newspaper, she wrote the newspaper column “It’s Newz To Me” for the past 25 years.
Public viewing for Mrs. Marcella Spencer will be Friday, July 30, 2021 from 1:00 PM til 6:00 PM at Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala, Florida 34475.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Mt. Tabor AME Church 5410 NW 27th Ave. Ocala, FL 34475
Interment will follow in Finley Cemetery .
