Deacon Leon C. Smith was born on April 9, 1931, to Friendly Smith and Ophelia Carter in Ocala, Florida.
Leon received his formal education at Howard High School in Ocala, Florida.
He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was united with New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an Usher, Trustee, Treasurer and Deacon.
Leon Smith was united in holy matrimony with Mollie C. Jacobs on October 20, 1953, in Ocala. Their union was blessed with five children.
He enlisted into the United States Army April26, 1951, retired as Sergeant Major on June 30, 1975. He was employed at Lowell Correctional Facility as a Sergeant and retired after 18 years. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming.
Deacon Leon C. Smith departed this life on November 28, 2022. He was preceded in death by his Father Friendly Smith and Mother Ophelia Carter, stepfather Johnny Jones, and son Patrick Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 69 years Mollie Smith; four children, Connie Parker (Howard), Gregory Smith (Karen), Kenneth Smith, and Terry Smith; one sister Barbara Smith; 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 1:00 until 5:00PM at Summers Funeral Home 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala, Fl 34475.
Wake Service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 6:00pm until 7:00pm at Summers Funeral Home 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala, Fl 34475.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 11:00AM at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 9010 SW 34th Place, Ocala, Fl 34481.
