Lance Goolsby, Jr. Obituary

"PLEASE AT THE REQUEST OF THE FAMILY, SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE PRACTICED AND WEARING A MASK IS MANDATORY"

“To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1. Lance Tyrone Goolsby, Jr. quietly took his place in the bosom of his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, in Leonardtown, Maryland where he resided.

Lance, Jr. was born on February 17, 1976 to Lance Goolsby, Sr. and Carol Rembert in Gainesville, Florida. He lived in Marion County, Florida until he transitioned to Maryland and Virginia, due to his father, Lance, Sr. serving in the United States Navy.

Lance received his formal education with Chesapeake Public Schools in Virginia, where he attended Great Bridge High School. While there he became a varsity basketball standout. He graduated in 1994.

He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and rededicated his life when he became an adult at Bethany Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia under the late Jake Manley, Sr.

Lance spent several years working in Afghanistan before moving back to the United States, where he was employed as an Investigator with the U S Government. He earned several awards, VX-20 Region Test Team Award in 2016, (IBST) Integrated Battlespace Simulation and Test Department, Beacon Award in 2017 and (NAWC) Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Commander’s Award in 2017.

Lance, Jr., “Peaches”, as he was lovingly called by his loved ones, cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandparents, “Granny” and “Granddaddy”, whom he purposed to call weekly, his  siblings, cousins and Aunties. He never missed a Family Reunion. He stayed connected with his siblings, making sure he supported them whenever they needed.

Peaches was a true Florida Gators fan. He had no problem debating back and forth with his father, who he referred to as “Pop”, about those Buccaneers and Gators. Texting his Mom and loving on his children was his most favorite things to do.  As the first born nephew, he knew he was favored, especially by his Aunt Barbara and Aunt San, and yes, he took full advantage of every moment!

Whenever, Peaches flew into Florida, his first stop would always be at his cousin Connie’s house, before heading to see his grandparents John and Barbara Goolsby. He could not wait to dig into Granny’s macaroni and cheese and neck bones and rice.

Lance, Jr. was a loving father to Oliva and Omni Goolsby. He cherished every moment he spent with them, whether coaching Omni from the sidelines at her softball games, or sharing vacation moments with Olivia. Lance loved sports, especially basketball. He would play regularly with his friends in Maryland.

Lance was preceded in death by grandparents, Deloris B. Campbell and Edgar Rembert and his great grandmother, Lydia Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Children, Omni Goolsby and Olivia Goolsby of Virginia Beach, VA; stepson, Jamil Kamara; Mother, Carol Rembert (Ray) of Ocala;

Father, Lance Goolsby, Sr. (Mildred) of  Portsmouth, VA; Grandparents, Barbara and John Goolsby of Inverness; Ferne and William Burnell  of Portsmouth, VA;  Sisters,   Leslie Bell Ocala; Lydia Goolsby, Denetria Goolsby, Ariel Goolsby, Lakeisha Faulk of Portsmouth, VA;  Brothers, Wayne Smith of Ocala; Lawrence Goolsby (Megan) of Ridge Crest, CA and Joshua Goolsby of Portsmouth, VA; Special Mom Elaine Hanley of Pensacola; Special Aunts: Casandra Wims (James), Maxine Weaver, Geraldine Woolfolk, and Barbara Carr and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
