Kevin Du’Shay Collins was born to Johnnie Jewel Reynolds in Newark, New Jersey on October 22, 1961. He was educated in the public schools of Marion County Florida, graduating from Vanguard High School. He furthered his education at Central Florida Community College in Ocala.
Kevin accepted Christ as Savior from a young age and was united with Siloam Baptist Church. On September 11, 1981, he married the former Michele R. McCoy, she was the love of his life for 43 years. Their union was blessed with 3 children.
On June 19, 1980, Kevin enlisted into the United States Navy from Jacksonville, Florida. During his enlistment of 20 years, he earned several decorations, medals, badges, citations, ribbons and awards for his outstanding achievements. His employment included the Veterans Training Company and Quality Inspector. His last duty assignment was in New London, CT. with a separation date of July 31, 2000. To being transferred to Fleet Reserve Status effective August 1, 2000, and was subject to Active-Duty Recall by the Secretary of the Navy. Kevin enjoyed his family, amusement parks, the beach, and the Florida Gators sports.
A cloud of witnesses of family and friends who preceded him in death stand in anticipation of the promised reunion; include his mother, Johnnie Reynolds and his grandson, Ashton Thompson.
“Life is richer when someone very special is a part of it … Hope is brighter, faith is stronger, love is deeper, because that special person gives everything more meaning.”
Although the hearts of the Collins family are burdened and naturally tears will flow, it is comforting to acknowledge that their precious loved one has departed from this earthly tabernacle and gone on to a building of God, a house not constructed with hands, but eternal in the heavens.
Life is just a stepping-stone; A pause before we make it home. A simple place to rest and be, until we reach eternity. Everyone has a life journey, A path to take with lots to see. God guides our steps along the way, but we were never meant to stay.
Kevin leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Michele Collins; his daughter Karissa Thompson; two sons, Brandon Collins and Kevin Collins, II; 1 grandson, Sullivan Thompson; his brother, Anthony Collins; his uncle, Robert Collins; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
