James Joshua “Sonny” Fleming was born on March 23, 1936, to Thomas, Sr., and Carrie Fleming in Ocala, Florida.
Sonny received his formal education in the public schools of Marion County graduating from Howard High School.
He accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and was united with New St. Lewis Missionary Baptist Church under the tutelage of the late Pastor, Dr. Josephus Bynum, Jr. Sonny had a strong and steadfast belief in God. He was a faithful member and served as a member of the Men’s Choir and Band of Brothers. He attended worship consistently as his health would allow.
He was employed as a truck driver for many years. Sonny enjoyed sitting on the porch in his rocking chair. Sonny’s work here on earth is done.
On Tuesday, January 30th he answered a call that he could not refuse. He will not be returning; he has no regrets. He has entered the reunion with family and friends that he has not seen in a long time.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Fleming, Sr., and Carrie Bristow Fleming; one brother Thomas Fleming, Jr; one sister Alice F. Brown.
This mission takes him to a wonderful place where he will be socializing to his heart’s content. Music, Laughter and Love are guaranteed, the food is delicious, and he will never gain an ounce. He is awaiting the Crowing of The King!
Sonny is survived by two nieces: Melinda F. Brown (James) and Carolyn Farmer, (Edward); one nephew: Thomas Fleming, III (Nonglak); his cousins, Theodis Hence, Jr. (Aline) and Silvia Thomas; a host of grand nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; a special great nephew, Terry L. Scott, Jr.
