James Bergland, Jr. was born on September 17, 1927, to the union of James Bergland Sr. and Mary Bergland in New York, NY.
James Bergland received his formal education in the New York School System. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was enlisted into the United States Army from September 28, 1951 – May 4, 1959
James Bergland was united in holy matrimony with Mary Howell on March 31, 1984, in Amityville, NY and was blessed with five stepchildren. He was employed by Nassau Community College as an engineer retiring in 1989.
He enjoyed listening and playing music. Upon moving to Florida James was united with the New St. Lewis Missionary Baptist Church until his health failed. He went home on October 13, 2023.
James was preceded in death by his parents and one stepchild, Roland Bonay; two brothers, Joe and Johnny Bergland; three sisters, Lucy Ross, Catherine Gomez and Mary Anne Bergland.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mary, one sister, Margaret Mendez; four stepchildren, Robert Bonay, Robin George, Roslyn Herrera and Rochelle Boney (Darrel Turman); one daughter in law, Margie Bonay; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a host of cousins and friends that will miss him.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday October 20, 2023, at 1:00pm until 4:00PM at Summers Funeral Home 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala 34475.
Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday October 21, 2023, at 1:00pm at Second Bethlehem Baptist Theological Seminary, 1105 NW 4th Street, Ocala, FL 34475.
