Mrs. Hazel H. Calvin was born Wednesday, June 16, 1920 to Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Hunter and Evelyn McAllister-Hunter in Zuber, Florida

Mrs. Calvin received her formal education from Marion County Public School System, graduating from Fessenden High School. She received her higher education from Bethune Cookman College majoring in Music and Culinary Arts.

Mrs. Calvin accepted Christ as Saviour at an early age and was united with Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church where she was a longtime member and served as one of the musicians.

She was united in Holy matrimony with James Calvin in Ocala and was blessed with one son, Keith L. Calvin.

Her employment was with the Marion County School Board where she served as s cook, retiring after 30 years.

Mrs. Calvin enjoyed playing the piano at church, cooking and spending time with her family. She was a Past Matron of a local chapter of The Order of Eastern Star.

On Monday, October 12, 2020, Mrs. Hazel Hershey Calvin answered the Master’s call and went home to be with the Lord. She lived a long blessed life and celebrated her 100th birthday on June 16, 2020.

She is survived by her son, Keith L. Calvin; five grandchildren, Kenike Calvin, Ketara Calvin, Keshia Hendrix, Keyager Calvin and Keziia Calvin; a beloved niece, Gwendolyn Jones and family, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing on Friday, November 6, 2020 from 1:00pm until 6:00pm at Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th St, Ocala, Fl. 34475

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Hazel H. Calvin will be on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 10:00 AM., at Progressive Union Cemetery.  

Interment will follow in Progressive Union Cemetery.
