Gregory Jerome Lawton, Sr.

Gregory Jerome Lawton, Sr, known to most as Greg, was born on January 15, 1956, to Eaden J. Lawton, Jr and Olivette Floyd in Ocala, Florida.

He grew up in Sparr, Florida and received his formal education in the Marion County Public School System, graduating from the North Marion High School Class of 1974. Greg furthered his education receiving an Associate of Arts degree from Webster University, located in Ocala, Florida.

Greg accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was united with Greater St. Joseph AME Church.

He was united in holy matrimony with Delois Jones on August 30, 1985, in Ocala, Florida.

Greg held employment with the Marion County School System’s Grounds Department, later Greene’s Produce, and finally Mid-Florida Mining.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed coaching youth, when his health allowed, fishing, singing, spending time with family and close friends, especially his grandchildren.

On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Greg, a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, coach, and friend, answered the Master’s call and peacefully transitioned into eternal life. He was preceded in death by both his parents, and his daughter, Shaka Joetta Lawton.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Delois Lawton; two sons: Gregory Lawton, Jr (Nechole) and Edward Jones; two daughters: Meltonia Clark and CaRhonda Jones; 11 grandchildren; six sisters: Carolyn Graham (Eugene, Sr), Gwendolyn Scott, Sakeena Jackson, Cassandra Boston (Gregory), Andrea Brooks, and Sirlestree Lawton; uncle: Raymond Tanner; aunts: Eartha Hill, Elmira Clark, Liz Bagley and Paula Holloway (Robert); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Public Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 1:00 until 6:00PM at Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala, Fl 34475.

Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 3:00pm at Church of God by Faith in Righteousness and True Holiness, 16655 NE Jacksonville Road, Citra, FL 32113.
