Freddie Walker, Sr. Obituary

"PLEASE AT THE REQUEST OF THE FAMILY, SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE PRACTICED AND WEARING A MASK IS MANDATORY"

Freddie B. Walker, Sr. was born in Cuthbert, Georgia on February 17, 1941, to the late Mr. Ernest and Annie Mae Walker. He is the twelfth of 13 children born to this union. He grew up onthe clay hills of Cuthbert, Georgia and moved to Orlando, Florida as a teenager. He graduated from Jones High School in Orlando.  He furthered his education at Fayetteville Technical College, where he received his Associates Degree in Automotive Technology in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

He enlisted in the US Army in 1959 and dutifully served his country for 23 years all over the world. This included duty stations in North Carolina, Texas, Hawaii, Germany, Italy, and multiple tours during the Vietnam War.

On November 16, 1963, Freddie married Carrie Belle Faison from Belleview, Florida. This union blessed him with a caring, dedicated, and loving wife and three beautiful children. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and, along with his family became members of Williams Chapel Church in Fayetteville, NC. As he grew spiritually, his love and relationship with God was evident in his life. In 1999, Freddie and Carrie returned to Belleview, FL to become full- time caregivers for her beloved parents, Mayo and Viola Faison. They reunited with Ramah Missionary Baptist Church family and continued fellowship and praising God. He was an active member of the Male Chorus, Men’s Bible Study, Food Pantry Ministry, Usher and Deacon Boards.

Freddie was employed by Sears Company as an Automotive Service Advisor for 25 years. In his leisure, he enjoyed traveling with his wife of 58 years and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his dog, Zero.

Family was incredibly important to Freddie, immediate and extended. He was prominent attendee at Faison & Walker Family Reunions. In addition, he became a father figure to many young people, always willing to lend a helping hand or a hug. He always made time to attend football games, band concerts, graduations, school programs, and special events involving both his biological and adopted children. The bond he enjoyed with his granddaughters was extraordinary, giving each of them special individual nicknames.

The latter years of Freddie’s life were spent as a full-time caregiver. He dedicated himself to caring for his beloved bride Carrie in her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
