"PLEASE AT THE REQUEST OF THE FAMILY, SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE PRACTICED AND WEARING A MASK IS MANDATORY"
Estelle Gibson was a lady of strong character, great wisdom, tremendous skills and fascinating talents. She was a selfless woman who extended her generosity without reservation.
Estelle was born on April28,1931, in Richmond, Virginia to the late Nathaniel and Leola Robinson and was adopted by the late Emma Wright at the age of 3. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Gibson, brother Nathaniel Robinson and son Calvin Gibson.
She attended Virginia State University where she studied art and education. As an educator, she taught primary school in the Virginia school system. She later relocated to the Bronx New York, where she raised her 5 children, Jerry Gibson Jr., Verneta Gibson (Andrews), Imogene Gibson (James), Vivian Gibson (Pearson), and Jacqueline “Evon” Gibson (Jones). With the help of her lifelong friend and sister Judith “Judy” Maupin, she was able to raise her family with the love and support that they graciously needed. With more love to give, she opened her home and fostered children. She then fell in love and adopted two children to call her own, Jonathan and Rodney Gibson.
In New York, she worked as a security guard for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, from where she retired. She was also a life time member of the Fraternal Organization, the Order of Eastern Stars. Belonging to various houses, she studied diligently, earning the highest designation of the 33rd degree. At a mature age, Estelle proudly attended and graduated from computer school.
Living life in New York City, Estelle enjoyed spending time with close friends and family, and she loved giving back to her community in a significant, memorable way. She enjoyed marking every memorable moment by taking pictures and videoing those special times. She also loved traveling, cruising, and taking long road trips whenever she had the chance. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing board games, pool, cards and the piano. She also liked cross word puzzles, video games and Sci-Fi Scary movies. She truly, enjoyed working with her hands and doing anything creative. As a seamstress, she made beautiful clothing, gowns and designer baskets. She loved Interior design and was a brilliant artist that enjoyed drawing and painting. She also enjoyed gardening, fixing things around her home and working on cars.
After her retirement, one of Estelle’s greatest accomplishments was the purchase of her first family home in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania where she made great memories for another 20 years. During her time in East Stroudsburg, she joined Faith International Church, where she actively served as the Mother of the Church. She truly enjoyed creating hundreds of goody baskets for the children and loved making them smile.
In 2020 Estelle relocated to Ocala Florida where she attended Greater Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed the remainder of her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, children, an a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, family and friends. We will miss her. The love we have for her is great, but God’s love is greater.
