Essie Follins Wright born September 23, 1933 to the late James Wesley and Nellie Mae Follins in Bronson Florida.

Mrs. Essie was educated in the Marion County Public School System. She graduated form Howard High: where she was an outstanding basketball player, called “Swing and Sway”, she also ran track.

She received certification in Cafeteria Management in Tallahassee, FL and afterwards became lunchroom manager at known now as “Howard Academy”. The first black “front line” manager at J.M. Fields department store, first black stock room manager at Cook’s department store.

Mrs. Essie was a member of New St. John Baptist Church for over 30 plus years; she was Senior Choir President, President of Women’s Mission at a period of time. Loved her Pastor Rev. Dr. T.L. Brooks. She talked weekly with her phone partner Barbara Garrison. She was a strong woman of faith, a woman of true virtue and character.

The love she displayed for family was unmeasurable. Always willing to give and serve.

She was proceeded in death by her two sisters: Ruth E. Follins and Ella M. Clark and one son Edward R. Follins.

Mrs. Essie Follins Wright leaves to cherish her loving memories her two children Wanda A. Follins, Michael K. Follins; four grandchildren: Shacoma Gaitor, Robert Edward Michael Sims, Mikeriea Follins, Michael Follins Jr.; one great grand: Shaniya Collier and one great great grand: Kendall Peacock; two brothers: Raymond Follins (Tina) and Robert Follins (Marilyn); one brother-in-law: J.C. Linton; one adopted son: Alvis Summers and one adopted daughter: Elnora Vernon and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Public viewing on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 1:00pm until 6:00pm at Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th St, Ocala, Fl. 34475

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Essie Mae Wright will be on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 1:00 PM., at New St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 2251 NW 2nd St, Ocala, Fl. 34475.

Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Park.
