Ruben Chappell transitioned from labor to reward on the evening of Monday, December 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to his parents, Gilbert Sr., and Alice J. Clements-Chappell, on August 3, 1951, in Jacksonville, Georgia. He was the third youngest of seven children. Mr. Chappell was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Sr., and Alice Chappell.
Shortly after graduating from Vanguard High School in 1970, Ruben entered the workforce as a laborer at Dayco, where he worked for over thirty years before retiring. In his spare time, Mr. Chappell enjoyed cooking his famous banana pudding and barbecue. Mr. Chappell was an avid outdoors person who loved nature and fishing.
On July 18, 1980, Mr. Chappell married Donnagale Colbert. The marriage produced two children, Kibeelu Chappell and Ruben Chappell Jr.
At an early age, Mr. Chappell accepted the Lord at Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Jacksonville, Georgia. Upon relocating to Ocala, Florida, he became a member of Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Thomas and later Holy Temple Church of God in Christ under Superintendent Hines. Under the leadership of Apostle Daymon and Pastor Joan Walls, Ruben accepted the calling as a Deacon. Mr. Chappell later became a faithful tither of Hazon Ministries under the leadership of his sister, Pastor Runette C. Jones.
Ruben Chappell leaves behind his wife, Donnagale Chappell of Ocala, FL; his daughter, Kibeelu Chappell; his son, Ruben Chappell Jr.; and his grandson, Donnovan Watson. He is also survived by his sisters, Sallie M. Springer of Miami, FL, Lillie M. Chappell of Ocala, FL, and Runette Jones of Ocala, FL; his brothers, Gilbert (Gloria) Chappell Jr. of Lowell, FL, Robert Chappell of Sparr, FL, and Freddie Chappell of Ocala, FL; his sister-in-law, Hattie Colbert; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 1:00 until 6:00PM at Summers Funeral Home 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala, Fl 34475.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00AM at Green Pasture Worship Center, 1818 NW Old Blitchton Road, Ocala, FL 34475.
