Deacon Odell Jones
Odell Jones was born on November 27, 1926 to Mr. Sam Jones and Mrs. Lillie Hood Jones in Marion County, Florida.
Mr. Jones received his formal education at Bethlehem School and Fessenden School in Ocala, Florida.
O’Dell accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and was united with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Chairman of the Deacon Board, member of Trustee Board, Founder of Emergency Fund.
He was united in holy matrimony with Celestine Cobarris Jones on June 24, 1950 in Ocala, Florida. Their union was blessed with 6 children.
He enlisted into the United States Army on June 8, 1945 and was honorably discharged on November 27, 1946.
In his earlier years he enjoyed farming, traveling, grilling, spending time with family, talking on the phone, watching Judge Judy, Tampa Bay Buc, Pittsburgh Steelers and golf.
Odell was a member of the Dunnellon Lodge #114 of M.W.U.GL of Florida P.H.A.
Odell Jones departed this life on March 7, 2021, he was preceded in death by parents Sam and Lillie Jones, Celestine (wife of 64 years), two sons: Clavin and Bernard Jones, two brothers: Herman and Sammie Jones, four sisters: Rosa Lee Elliot, Dothenia Kinlser, Vester Mae Thomas and Pinkey Hathcock.
Mr. Odell Jones leaves to cherish his memories three son: Alfred (Priscilla) Jones of Palatka, Fl, Alonzo and Marvelle Jones of Ocala, Fl; one daughter: Debra Jones-Hendrix of Ocala, Fl; nine grandchildren: Taurus (Delvina) Jones, San Jacinto, CA, Tiffany Jones, Gainesville, Fl, Larron (Francheska) Jones, Tallahassee, Fl, Shawanna (Antonio) Brown, Lake City, Fl, Marquita (Maynard) Yates, Laurel, MD, Tarisha Johnson, Ocala, Fl, Celestine Hendrix, Laurel, MD, Clifford Reynolds, and Marcus Johnson; eighteen great grands, seven great great-grands, one brother: Freddie (Karen) Jones, Tallahassee, Fl, one sister: Jerlene Gainey, Gainesville, Fl, two brothers-in-law: Herbert Cobarris, Ocala, Fl and Edward (Carolyn) Whipper, Oviedo, Fl, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
Public viewing for Deacon Odell Jones will be Friday, March 19, 2021 from 1pm to 6pm under the care and direction of Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala.
Celebration of Life services for Deacon Odell Jones will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 728 NW 6th Avenue
Ocala, FL 34475
Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, after Military Honors and Masonic Rites.
