Reflections of Life
A time to be born:
Charles R. Rhodes was born on November 16, 1937, to the late Annie Mae Shelton and Robert Rhodes in Ocala Florida.
A time to learn:
Charles was educated in the Public Schools of Marion County, attending Belleview Santos High School and later enlisted into the United States army for a brief period and was honorably discharged.
A time to love:
On March 4, 1961, Charles was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Luvenia Monts. This union was blessed with two children: Tony L. Rhodes and Teresa L. Rhodes.
Time of Christian experience:
Charles accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at a very young age embarking on a lifelong journey of faith and service. He became a devoted member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an ordained deacon, dedicating himself to his own spiritual growth and wellbeing as well as that of his community.
Time of employment:
He was a former employee of Silver Springs Gift Shop for many years. He retired from Certified Grocer and later became employed by the Marion County School Board where he served as a School Crossing Guard (i.e.) the “Sidewalk Ambassador” and an “Intersection Director”. He worked in all sorts of weather and talked about a variety of topics. He gave high fives, fist bumps and shouts of “have a great day” as he helped children to arrive to and from school safely for 17 years.
The clock of life exchanged time for eternity for Deacon Charles R. Rhodes. He was greeted in the early hours on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, by the cool wind of an Angel. Deacon Rhodes, heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto Me and rest; lay down, thou weary one, lay down thy head upon My breast.” He left this world at the tender age of 86. To God be the Glory. He was preceded in death by both his parents, Annie Mae Shelton and Robert Rhodes, his brother Henry E. Shelton and his wife Evelyn.
Though his smile is gone forever and his hand we cannot touch. Family and friends are still blessed to have so many memories of the one they loved so much. His memory is now our keepsake, which they will never part.
Those left to carry on his legacy, a loving and dedicated wife of 63 years, Luvenia M. Rhodes; son, Tony L. Rhodes; daughter Teresa L. Rhodes-Davis; granddaughter, Kelsey S. Johnson; 5 god-sons; 2 special friends, Ed Hector and Deacon James Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
