Deacon Bennie Lee Mitchell, Sr.

Born: September 11, 1933 in Live Oak, Florida

Parents: Bennie Mitchell and Alberta Johnson

Education: Clarksville in Flemington, Florida

Church Affiliation: He joined Mt. Pedro Baptist Church at an early age. He became a deacon under the leadership of Rev. C. C. Henderson and served until the church retired him

Marriage: To Lorene Green in 1956, their union was blessed with seven children.

Occupation: Custodial worker at Shands Hospital until his retirement in August 1997.

Hobbies:  In his leisure time he enjoyed playing pool, fishing, and family time. He became a Free Mason in 1992.

Demise:  Deacon Mitchell transitioned from this earth on Saturday, July 18, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Mitchell; two sons, Clayton and Oliver Mitchell; two daughters, Dadula Mitchell and Joan Pace; his mother, Alberta Johnson-Nelson, and his father, Bennie Mitchell; one brother, Clearance Mitchell.

Deacon Bennie Mitchell leaves to cherish his memories: four sons, Rickey Mitchell of Ocala, Bennie Lee Mitchell, Jr. of Flemington, Earl Mitchell and Eddie Mitchell both of Flemington; two daughters, Vernadean Thomas and Jeanette Mitchell both of Gainesville; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. 

Public viewing on Friday July 31, 2020 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Mt. Pedro Missionary Baptist Church, 20520 County Rd. # 329, Micanopy, Fl. 32667

A Celebration of Life for Deacon Bennie Mitchell, Sr. will be held at Mt. Pedro Community (Graveside) Cemetery, on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 1:00  PM. 

Interment will follow in Mt. Pedro Community Cemetery.
