Darryl Antonio Lewis was born on January 1, 1962, to Irvin Lewis and Jerline Watson in Ocala, Florida.  Darryl received his formal education in the public school of Marion County Florida, graduating from Vanguard High School.

Darryl enlisted into the United States Army on October 2, 1979. During his tenure he was awarded several medals and ribbons for;  Meritorious Service Medal (2nd  award), Army Commendation Medal (4th  award) Army Achievement Medal (5th award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense  Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star (BSS), Humanitarian Service Medal (2nd Award), Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. Darryl retired with an Honorable separation from Fort Bragg, NC on October 31, 1999.

After retirement from the U. S. Army, he was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Mail Handler for 18 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, reading, watching sports and most of all spending time with his children.

Darryl Antonio Lewis departed this life on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Lewis, and Jerline Watson Lewis.

Darryl is survived by eight children: Monica Lewis of Seminole, FL, Tisha Lewis of Belle Glade, FL, Darryl Lewis Jr, Jada Lewis of Belle Glade, Timka Lewis, Kierra Lewis, Javonte Lewis and Deion Lewis all of Ocala, FL; 12 siblings: Geraldine Williams of Tampa, Vivian Terry (Paul) of Largo, Curtis Lewis (Christine) of Ocala, Carolyn McCombs of Ypsilanti, MI, Lindell Lewis, Ronald Lewis (Felicia), Irving Lewis, Jr. all of Ocala, Don Lewis of Ann Arbor, MI, Wanda Lewis of Orlando, Danita Bernard (Darryl’s twin) of Tampa, Michael Lewis (Kimberly) of McDonough, GA and Demetrious “Trell” Lewis of Ocala; a host of nieces and nephews.

Public Visitation will be held on Friday January 26, 2024, at 1:00pm until 6:00pm at Summers Funeral Home 2238 NW 10th Street, Ocala 34475.

Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday January 27, 2024, at 11:00am at Second Bethlehem Baptist Theological Seminary, 1105 NW 4th Street, Ocala, FL 34475.
