Calvin Louis McDaniel Sr. was born June 22, 1923 in St. Petersburg, Florida. The firstborn to proud parents Charlie and Bertha Manuel McDaniel.
He was educated in Marion County Public Schools. In 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served until 1945. He received a Bronze Star, American Theater Campaign Medal, Victory Medal and the American Defense Service Medal for his service.
After his military service he settled in Detroit, Michigan where he was employed by Darling Industries for over 30 years.
After his retirement, he returned to Ocala and joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he sung in the Male Chorus. He was a faithful member and was known for his smile. In 2009, he met and married Viola Thomas Hope.
Calvin was called home to eternal rest on April 18, 2021. His homecoming was preceded by his parents, first wife Grace McDaniel, sons: Calvin McDaniel Jr. and Robert Summers, sister: Juanita Davis.
He leaves to cherish precious memories wife: Viola McDaniel; sister: Sallie Sears; daughters/in-law: Shelia McDaniel, Linda Stewart, Barbara Summers; grandsons: Calvin McDaniel III, Kenneth Stewart, and Robert Summers; two great-grandaughters: Taylor McDaniel and Caleigh McDaniel; four step-daughters: Narvella Haynes, Jermele Jacobs (Ellie), Denise Robeson, Letecia Edwards (Stan), seven step-grandchildren, ten step-great grandchildren; two brothers in law: Freddie Thomas (Kaye) and Alfred Thomas (Roberta); sister in law: Elizabeth Greenlee (Robert) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Calvin L. McDaniel Sr. can be made to Hospice of Marion County, P.O. Box 4860, Ocala, Florida, 34478-4860.
Public viewing on Friday April 23, 2021 from 1:00pm until 6:00pm at Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th St, Ocala, Fl. 34475
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Calvin L. McDaniel Sr. will be held at Faith (Lincoln) Memorial (Graveside) Garden, on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow in Faith (Lincoln) Memorial Garden.
