Bettye Lewis Obituary

Bettye Jean Lewis, 69, passed away on November 2, 2018 in Tampa, Florida. Born in Ocala, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rosa Bell Lewis. She graduated from Howard High School in 1967 and attended Florida A & M University where she became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Bettye will be remembered for her infectious, deep-dimpled smile and warm heart full of generosity. After retiring from Citicorp as an account maintenance representative, Bettye volunteered in Hillsborough County Schools through a senior program helping in elementary classrooms. She absolutely adored “her children.”
Additionally, Bettye worked diligently as a faithful member of House of God in Tampa. She was the president of the Usher Board and of the Curtesy Department, Assistant Secretary for Sunday Bible School, and heavily involved with the Food Pantry. She truly found family amongst the members. Bettye had a happy soul, and she spoke of her blessings and gratitude every day.

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Martha German, Mamie Lewis, and Audry Snow, and her brothers, Alexander Lewis, Sr. and Arthur Lewis III.
           

She leaves to cherish her memories:
A loving and devoted son, Melvin Lewis (Cynthia) of Atlanta, GA; a devoted nephew and “second” son, Maurice Lewis (Valtina) of Ocala, FL; nephews: Robert Saxon German of Ocala, FL, Herbert Dion Snow of Ocala, FL, Tony Snow of Williston, FL, Alexander Lewis, Jr (Cassie). of Gainesville, FL; nieces: Monica Williams (Rick) of Gainesville, FL, Marisa Lewis of Tampa, FL, Latoya Lewis of Washington, D.C.; Uncle Elay (Genevia) Lewis of Dayton, OH, and aunts Noisetta Delores Lewis of Ocala, FL, Mazie Lewis of Jacksonville, FL; a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, and sorrowing friends.

Public Viewing will be on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 1:00 PM til 6:00 PM. at Summers Funeral Home, 2238 NW 10th St. Ocala, Florida. And Saturday, November 10, 2018 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church at 10:00 AM until time of service

Funeral Service will be on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Rev. Keith Blunt, Pastor, Elder Wanda Wilson, Euglogist

Final Interment will follow at New Jerusalem Cemetery, Ocala, FL.
